These are some places in and around the city as I see it. It is not as though each will get its own room or anything, but they will be places that characters can go to:
The Inn and Tavern: I don't have a name for it yet. It's the largest business of its type in town and is run by an older man named Art, who retired to this after life as a now-legendary mercenary and will probably kick your ass himself if you cause more trouble than his bouncers can handle. Being well-respected he was able to establish his business as neutral ground where all can gather and socialize; you may see town guards and known criminals here. They'll trade insults but not blows. The beer is good and the rooms are inexpensive.
The Senate: Where all the fancy political types make all the decisions about what the city should do. Intrigue abounds and powerful people try to influence what happens here. The forum, a space for public events, is located nearby
The University: Institutions of higher learning a rare in this world, but the city has one. Here people can learn of subject both mundane and magical. On the campus of this institution the academia seek to gain power through knowledge!
The Temple of the Pantheon: Here, all the official deities of the state are worshiped and their clergy can come together to discuss matters of the divine. Most religious characters will spend some time here to pay homage to one god or another. This is a grand building and the city is proud of it.
The Citadel: This imposing and fortified structure is where the city's guards live and train. It has barracks, and armory and training grounds. Guards are always marching around here... or marching criminals to the jail also in this place.
The Bazzar: Whatever you want, it's for sale here. NPCs and player characters alike may set up stalls here to sell their wares. Just watch out for pickpockets!
The Docks: Any good merchant republic has to have these. There are many ships moored here, many warehouses. Business flows through here both legitimately and illegitimately! This is the first sight many characters will have of the city.
The Slums: A run down area where the poor people and a lot of immigrants stay until they can find more desirable lodgings. Crime is rampant here. It sure is exciting though!
The Estate District: On the other hand, here is where the rich people live in grand estates and plot on how to get even richer and more powerful! A sharp contrast to the housing of the poor.
The Arena: Gladiatorial games and honor duels are held here as well as sporting events and plays. A place for the people of the city to get some excitement and entertainment to distract them from their troubles!
The Wilds: Walk outside the areas patrolled the guards and you may enter this dangerous place. Most of it is just wilderness but who knows what monsters and villains may make their home in this untamed land?
If anyone wants to use this as the basis for a map of the city be my guest!
