Vampires are unique of the loathed races of the land. Unlike demons or werewolves their power comes not from eidetic magic's fueled by the living souls of others, or from a bestial claws that allow them to shred through plate as if it were paper, it comes from the blood inside them. Very special blood in fact. And it is because of how they prey on the population and the influence that they can exude that they are actively hunted.
When a vampire feeds the blood they take in undergoes an alchemic change to become quite addictive to others as well as being able to fuel certain kinds of magic that come naturally to vampires. The addiction caused is so great that lovers would turn on one another gladly, men would leave their families and knights would betray their oaths for another taste. Beyond that feeding regularly from a vampire will stop the aging process and 'goul' the person drinking. Gouls are unaffected by being in sunlight and are often their Masters eyes and ears during the daylight hours. They gain a small boost to physical attacks and defense. Because of their unnatural ties, they too are actively hunted and will be killed or brought for observation if suspected of being a goul.
Any race but werewolf and demon can become a vampire. When they turn into one they loose any bonuses associated with their race. While vampires do have supernatural abilities, they also have a number of weaknesses that help offset them. They are susceptible to holy wards, sunlight burns them and will kill even the most powerful vampire in time, and a stake through the heart will send them into a suspended state.
The blood tie:
If a character drinks from a vampire three times in a given month then they are considered fully tied to them. The different stages of it are described as follows;
First drink:
The person finds that the vampire is in their thoughts. A powerful natural affection there as one might find from a first crush or puppy love. Any mistakes or evils done by them will be explained away in some form no matter how irrational. A kind of "Who cares that he's killed someone? They probably had it coming and doesn't he just have the most dreamy eyes anyway?"
Second drink:
The attraction grows. Beyond just thinking of the vampire, they find themselves thinking of what they can do for the vampire to help them. Maybe getting small gifts or finding information of what they might like to know. Some consider the second drink to be as bad as the third since as this point it would take an amazing force of will to turn down the offer of drinking from the same vampire again.
Third drink:
Fully tied, it is the actuation of having true love in your life. Even if it's not readily returned, the person knows that it will be some day, even if they die and it takes a few years for the vamp to realize what they'd lost. Total affection and devotion. Gouls have this as part of what keeps them alive. Many consider it their love for their Masters that keeps them going, not the blood that they crave.
No vampire is protected from the blood tie from another vampire. They are just as susceptible to it as a mortal, perhaps more so if the blood is offered while they are hungry. Vampires avoid drinking from werewolves since their blood will send them into a furry attacking anyone around them friend or foe in an attempt to drain them to the last drop of their blood. And demonic blood will make them vomit it up. Something foul about it that saps their strength.
