Demons and Angels have been around since the beginning of time, and have been mortal enemies for just as long as well. Both are immortals but have their ways of being killed. Demons can be killed by removing their head and the same goes with angels. Otherwise they are immortal to anything else. Wounds instantly heal, real shapes hidden by human shells, and some demons and angels have been cast down or up by their respective area for certain reasons and that they loose their powers, but are still immortal; e.g. Fallen Angels and Fallen Demons.
Demons: Demons: Demons are agents of change. Left over scraps from the breath of the creation of the gods. They have higher advantages than that of mortals but also higher disadvantages. Quick for making deals that they get the better of the deal. They are quick to better themselves, always getting what they want. They lust for power ultimately drives them; power, gold, souls... each demon has their inch to them and each demon has a different personality they protray. Each demon symbolizes one of the 7 deadly sins. Sloth, greed, wrath, envy, gluttony, lust, and pride. Each demon has the core of the deadly sin and acts upon it. Not all demons can come topside, most stay in the debts of hell but some are strong enough to change shape and go topside where they do their bidding. Those left behind are sinners that burn in the enternal fires and those of lesser demons that are not powerful to make it topside. Demons are ruled by one Master Demon. He looks and watches over the demons to keep them in line within the rules of hell as every place has rules. Such as Limbo. Limbo are for those that carried out suicide and do not touch the fire of hell, merely set to a life of wandering. No demon can touch Limbo, and no one in limbo can come out. It is the way things are done. There are lessor demons as well. Sucubi, for example, are demons that are sex driven or energy driven. Deomons can also have thralls, or slaves, which will give boosts to the character (5% - 10%) for each active Thrall one has. (Active thralls have to play a few days a month.) However, with this comes the threat of death to those that pact is found out about, if not imprisoned or other unkind thing that could happen if it was found out..

If we went with this black and white outlook, i would love it if people could choose gray areas since it would make it more interesting, i.e. just dont want stereotypes forced.

<Carthad> So, do demons appear demonic...or do they have two forms? <Fayne> We could just call them Fallen <Fayne> My idea, Call them The Fallen or something similar, some have a darker form some have a lighter form, just depends on them person
Just an idea...

I like the idea of them naturally being able to choose a non demonic looking persona to go out into the world with, as well as having a true demonic form. I think that as the character level progresses the demons hors should get larger, wings should grow more expansive, longer tail etc to make them look more fearsome.
I don't really want to see there be rules on how many inches horns can grow per level, but have it be there as something that a player can grow as they play the character out. Also I'd be ok with them gaining more abilities as they become more powerful based on level in regards to what they an offer in the form of pacts.
Vampires have blood and biting. Right now I'm trying to mull over mechanics on how to make the Faustian deal playable ic. I think that there would be a lot of fun to do it, to rp out the corruption, the lust for power, the drawback of selling ones soul .. etc.. and so really want to see it done right.
I think there can be dark demons, and lighter sided demons. I want to keep the race open for any style of play and not hamstring people to only being violent... but there can certainly be violent sects of demons and I'd love to see write ups of them put out so we can incorporate all facets of the race into the final write up.

Yeah, i wouldn't want to have anything static either would be confining, but i would say while it is great, since you said demons are inherently evil, do we have to make them all have horns and demon wings or should they be more varied..

Race: Demons
Note: Demons are kill on sight by any population. Even werewolves and vampires won't do business with them if they're nature is known.
History:
Demons are agents of change. Left over scraps from the breath of the creation of the gods. They have higher advantages than that of mortals but also higher disadvantages. Quick for making deals that they get the better of the deal. They are quick to better themselves, always getting what they want. They lust for power ultimately drives them; power, gold, souls... each demon has their inch to them and each demon has a different personality they portray.
Demons are old, as timeless as creation itself. The more secretive and rare book on demonology make alliterations to their nature in that the demons and the gods are both made out of water, just that Gods are lakes or oceans and demons are more like drops of dew upon a leaf. Though most demons would scoff at that, they wouldn't be able to outright deny it without lying. Like water droplets, they can grow by absorbing others, and grow quite monstrous proportions at that.
The history of the lands are sparked with cults that secretly worshiped demons, feeding power to them as upstart religions in return for favor. Some of the lost books from before the cataclysm account of armies needing to be raised against a few particularly powerful ones. It is fear that they could grow to such power that they are hunted actively by all societies and purged. There is no killing them, only pushing them from the mortal realm.
Appearance:
Demons have two forms. Their natural form, and a form that they show in the public eye. Most demons will never show their true selves unless they are forced to in a summoning rite. There is no set appearance to them. They are created of their own minds, no mother or father, they simply have always been. Some with hooves instead of feet, some with spaded tails or other fleshy rounded bits on them. Horns, wings, claws and fangs all common. The one trait that they all share is that each is powerfully individualistic. They are proud, and they will never willingly bow down to another's will without there being something in return for them in the long run.
ooc:
players are encouraged to have an appearance write up for their demon form as well as their publicly seen form. Though their true form may have wings and claws, they will be for appearance only and not actually add to any abilities in game.
Demonic powers:
All demons have access to the Infernal spell school. This allows for the creation of summoned demonic blades and armor, for the use of hellfire and various other spell effects with the theme of corruption, darkness, seduction and pain. The more souls a demon has on contract, the more powerful the spells from this sphere will be.
1 contract - 10% boost to the use of Infernal spells 2 contracts- 20% boost to the use of Infernal spells 3 contracts- 20% boost to the use of Infernal spells etc.
Pacts can only be made with PCs. Each demon can make a thread to track their pacts. As other players come to sign contracts with them ic, they will post on that demon's thread to show the date of when it was done. Each pact is good for one month, and the pc has to have gained a level the month before, for the pact to have any effect. The added rules are in place as a stopping measure to keep from having demons just pump their stats by having a few characters that are rarely played sell their souls for them. The mechanic is in to encourage player on player rp in Faustian deals, and I think they'll be a lot of fun! For more on pacts, see the pact thread.
The player giving their soul is known as a Thrall. Thralls can be magically compelled against doing harm willingly against the demon they signed the pact with, so long as it's mentioned. That link between thrall and demon does leave a taint on the thrall that can be detected through the use of the holy magic school and trafficking with demons is grounds for execution, or at least a bit of time in a temple cell being 'reeducated'.
Each contract can only last for one month, and as the demon character gains levels, they will be able to offer more to potential thralls. Contracts must be posted and approved in the pact thread to take effect icly.
I would love to see some rites and ceremonies brought into the game for demonic covens to bestow power upon their members, the power of witch is linked to ic participation, and I'd like to see similar things done with the Holy school of magic being the opposing force to it.
This is still a work in progress! Just putting up more information. I'm sure that someone else can take it and make it flow a bit more smoothly. I took out a bit about them being built around write and wrong. Think that an angel character could easily be built with this frame work and hold to the teachings of a chosen deity, just.. in the way that they interoperate it. I don't see even those having direct communication with gods.
My thoughts so far.

Hm... I like how the magic grows stronger with each pact, and yes, they've got to be fairly active or it's just silly. As for the pacts, maybe include that pacts can include other agreements as well? After all, a demon might offer power to someone as long as they do a certain thing, like kill someone or steal something. Likewise, maybe the pact could be a service contract, where the demon did as he or she was bid for a set time, then got to keep the person's soul for a month following without that person getting the demonic boons that can be offered. There could be a lot of flexibility in contracts, after all.

I will do a write up soon for this, but the pact thing lasting for a month i don't mind it is only when they level up that they can do it i see as a problem, with limitless levels, When it gets to higher levels unless level gain is kept steady, pacts will have no power. I know atleast in the past some we have rped with will never do a pact if they get nothing from it. (damn min maxers)
