Okay, this is a new category for the forums. Basically any staff or moderators can post here to update what's been done by the staff on the game. It's a way to let everyone keep up with what's being done on the game, as well as when things players do are finalized for use IC.
Also, we did an event! It was a fun little event involving a "magic storm" and a few unfriendly visitors. Fortunately some non-magical folks made quick work of the intruders and kept the city safe!

Today I spent a few hours messing around with bot coding and trying out different frameworks in preexisting programs to see if I could get it to work with the hopes of cannibalizing the code if I could. All coding looked at was under free use license.

Spent the last few days with family that was visiting from out of state. I'll get back to work on developing races. Mera and lez will be posting up things on what players can expect as their rights here and we'll be looking for feedback on that once it's up.

Well, I now have a way of having the bot pull up text as part of a call command. While it's not a database (that's still in the works), it is a stop gap measure for being able to look up your character's stats without opening up a window and looking on the mb.
HP: 10\nEP: 10\nPAtk: 8\nPDef: 8\nMAtk: 5\nMDef: 8\nAgi: 5\nWill: 6
is the format I'd like posted if you're interested in having your stats brought up by the bot. I'll need them in that format as well as your character name. Stats will be brought up by the !stats (charname) command.

Spent a bit of time learning about regular expressions www.ruby-doc.org/core-2.1.1/Regexp.html for those that are curious. It's interesting but I really will need to have a good handle on that to get a few things done with the bot. Essentially it'll allow me to have it read over everything typed into channel to look for commands or key words to trigger things. Did that and played around a bit with yaml and getting the bot to respond to kicks for .er... kicks

We now of a website. Not much has been put up on it and I'm still learning how to deal with a database. Ultimately I'd very much want to connect the bot and the webpage to the same database so you can roll the stats shown online. Wayward Inn

Been a bit since I tossed an update in. Took some family time and am presently learning a bit of sql and php as well as getting the database structured. I'm learning as I go, but hope to get the database up in the next two weeks and have parts of it visable through the website as well as get the phpbb up and running.

Still puttering around with the database. When I'm finished there should be a good amount of flexablity in it as well as little to no redundancy. What does this mean? It means that the tables should be mapped out so that if we want to change things so elves get a 3 bonus to magic, and later on it's decided that it should be a 6 bonus to magic, that it will be a change in one cell as opposed to having to change a cell on every elf character in the database.
Time spent on making sure the structure is set up right will better allow for growth, stability and for the time that it takes to search the database for various values. In short, it's the foundation for a lot of things so I want to make sure that it's done right. To that end I've been reading up on a program called sql workbench and am trying to familiarize myself with it. It seems to be quite powerful and does have actual visual representations of how different data tables will interact with one another as a hepful tool against redundancy.
I am not a database administrator, so am learning the techniques that they use and I think that it will allow for some really interesting things down the road. Other uses would be time stamping actions that would allow for crafting, and sublists of equipment that would allow for tracking of individualized enchants and what those enchants do per item. So, when I say I'm working on the database, it's not just the char sheet, but how all the other associated tables will interact with it as well, including crafting, items, armor and weapons, equipped items into equipment slots, etc.. and how all of this will be referenced with one another with primary and secondary keys.
Hey.. if i'm going to do it, may as well do it right... right?
