It was built upon the outskirts of Troth, a large fenced inn that travelers frequented before seeing to their business in the city or as a final stop before heading out to greater adventures in the land. The main building itself was two stories and sat in the middle of the fenced off clearing. It didn't have the large walls of Troth to protect it from raiders or bandits, but for some reason the inn never seemed to be targeted as some of the others of it's ilk were. Stables were clean, and kept freshly stocked with hay, and at the door there were several time worn placards with wards against all manner of unnatural things. A few even cast out a soft luminescence as people walked past them, leaving a tingle over their flesh before the customers would enter the inn proper.
The runes guarding the door were fakes of course. Asmond the owner didn't discriminate against paying customers. All manner of sorts could be found within, but those that were looked at as unsavory would know to leave that part of them behind. Nothing would be done to stop a vampire seen openly feeding from being killed on the spot, or a demon from being torn apart by those inside of it. Their best safety was the secrecy they shrouded themselves in. Even the most powerful could be overrun. It was something that Asmond knew well enough. He did little of his own work these days. The sharply dressed man leaving the bartending and food preparation to the more attractive men and women that found their way to him looking for work. And there was always more work to be done.
Tonight was no different. A younger man came in hidden by a cloak and had spoken to him at length about a few rather surprising matters. Asmond was known for his connections and a special task had been put out for the doing. Disturbing news from the north and close to the wall. Something that could well prove interesting if anyone survived the journey. After giving the man food and a room for the night Asmond would set about quietly looking over those that entered his inn, trying to pick out a few that had a certain something about them that caught his eye. He liked to think he could pick out just who fate favored after all.
